For this project we did art of steal, where we steal an idea and make it our own piece of artwork. I stole from Banksy who is a street artist, he does graffiti as well it has a deep meaning behind the work that he does. Since I couldn't actually do graffiti because it is illegal and I am not that talented as Banksy. Instead I did a form of graffiti by making a stencil and using black spray paint to make the words pop. I used a glue stick to glue it onto the stop sign, that part could be illegal just like Banksy, as well I used the word Greed to put a message out there. The meaning is up to you to decide, Banksy doesn't tell anyone what his meaning is, that is apart of the art to make people explore their minds more then they would on a average day.
When we first started unit two we were asked a question, we were asked "is it bad to steal art?" I honestly wasn't sure where this was going so I put "yes, it is bad to steal someones art." Then we started to discuss more and more, we watched this TED talk about how this man pointed out that there is nothing original only how we transformed it. That is right, people get ides from someone else work and they build off of that with their own imagination. At the end of this unit I realized that we have been stealing without even realizing it, so stealing is perfectly fine as long as it is not exact. It's okay to steal as long as you made it your own, add your own flare to the piece of art and not copy someone exactly and say that is is your own.
The two into one project was absolutely awful, I had the elephant into a teapot idea and I loved it, until I got to the finishing product. I was not sure on how I should add color, I didn't want to use colored pencil because I felt like I could go a little bigger then that. water color was what I wanted to do from the gecko, it gives a teapot look and they are pretty. I decided to add something, I used blow ink, it didn't turn out as well, but it still add a nice touch to it. Then I used a watery purple by layering it over and over again. To make the Elephot stand out I used the water resistant technique, I traced the Elephot with a white crayon, it worked at first but then it didn't. When I was done the Elephot was not standing out so at the last minute I traced it with a sharpie and it turned out better then I thought I would.
The character remix was so much fun to do, I love Elsa and I was excited to use her in my art piece. Since Elsa was nice in the movie I go the idea to turn her into a demon Elsa, it's an Elsmon. I traced a picture of Elsa and then I colored her in normally, the blue dress, pale skin, and the white hair. For the eyes I used charcoal, I decided it was to neat so I smudged it out of the eyes so it gave a dark tint around her eye sockets. When I was done I took a look at it and realized that the background needed something, it needed to make her look evil more possessed. I had an idea to use charcoal and it worked out beautifully, it captured the Elsmon and not just Elsa.
